Military Coat, Ice Cream Truck, and reading list update

It's been busy around here, but I've found a little
time here and there to work on my current projects.
I'm making an Ice Cream Truck music box.

I'm still working on the frame.
I'm using foam core and plan on smoothing
out the rough edges with paper clay.
I plan on detailing the interior so it looks like a
real ice cream truck with frozen goodies inside.

I just installed the music box mechanism so
that the wind-up movement is in the back.
Lots more work to be done on this one!

The Military Coat is coming along.
I used this pattern, adding lining.

The upper lining is a music sheet pattern.
Now that I'm closing in on the finishing, we've decided
against buttons for the front because they
could rub against and damage a guitar.
Instead, I will stitch black twill tape along the center front.
I'll stitch horizontal strips at the button intervals to give it a military feel.
Shoulder pads need to be installed to give more shape.

Other than these projects, I've been inspired by some neat books lately.

Everything Alice is loaded with some very creative
Alice in Wonderland themed crafts and recipes.
This will come in handy for next year's Mad Tea Party...

I found out about Fairytale Food from other blogs.
I ordered my copy through Ebay.
Since it mailed from the UK, it took almost a month to receive.
I just love all the recipes and illustrations.

I've been enjoying Lisa Kettell's books and zines.
I already had Altered Art Circus, so I thought I'd
buy some of her other publications (available at Lulu.com).
I've ordered all the Piddlestix Volumes.
***blush***
Just wondering - was there a Volume 3?  I can't seem to find it.

I hope you're having a fine and dandy August...
... dog days of summer...
I'm looking forward to cooler, fall weather.
That doesn't usually happen until November here in the desert.
***sigh***
At least Ice Network figure skating begins
sometime in late August/early September.
I can't wait for this pre-Winter Olympic season!

Wishing you a fantastic and magical week!
Carmen
