Heirloom Navel Oranges (yum)

Aren’t these the most beautiful oranges?  Well, they taste even better!  They’re completely seedless (all navel oranges are seedless) and ultra juicy.
My husband found these at Trader Joe’s and they’re magnificent.  They’re Cecilia Sky Valley Heirloom Navels and come from trees planted in the 1930’s.  I usually shy away from navel oranges because they tend to be mealy, dry and not very sweet, but these are what oranges should be.  If you find some, you’ve got to try them.
Winter is the season for citrus and the best opportunity to experience optimal flavor.  The health benefits of citrus are wonderful – they contain vitamin C which is good for the immune system, aids in iron absorption and healing.  They also contain beta-carotene, calcium, vitamin B6, potassium and fiber.  Unless you’re allergic, there’s no down side to this treat!
I hope you’re able to enjoy the season’s bounty.
